Hell's Freezing Temperature

Science magazine reports that an employee at the U.S. National Bureau of Standards about 50 years ago made calculations as to what temperature Hell would freeze over.

He based his work on Revelation 21:8 "But the fearful, and unbelieving... shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone," and calculated that the temperature of Hell would have to be less than 444.6 degrees Celsius (832.3 degrees F) for a lake of brimstone to exist.

Otherwise, the brimstone would escape as a gas.

But skeptics of this theory note that since it is unlikely that Hell exists at the surface of the earth, the additional pressure generated by any subsurface location would change the temperature at which brimstone can remain liquid up to a high of 1,040 degrees C (1904 degrees F).
